Go-Kart… Anyone?

You know those big game fishing people with their heavy duty fishing gears fighting a huge 1,000 pound marlin? Well, I too would like to feel that thrill. However, getting that kind of fishing gear, boat and go hunt for marlins is really out of my league. So some frens and I found an alternative (almost) to that. We use tiny fishing setups to fish for smaller fishes. Due to the smaller setup with lines no thicker than our hair, it amplifies the fun and excitement of fishing even if the fish at the other end of the line is a small one.

Similarly, my frens and I are not able to afford a race car, let alone maintaining it and racing it on full race tracks. So we opted for an alternative…. smaller race cars… go-karts.

Go-karts are basically a little frame with 4 little wheels, an little engine, seat, steering wheel, pedals and a petrol tank.

To get unto the kart, you stand over the kart, hold on to the steering wheel and basically ‘drop’ your behind into the little bucket seat. Well, not exactly a Recaro but it holds you well. More like a jerry-can sliced diagonally. Once you are nicely seated, you will notice that the rest of the world towers above you. You sit very very close to the tarmac, probably about 3cm or so. There are two pedals, right pedal to go fast, left pedal is the brake. There are no keys to start the engine, the operator starts your engine ala lawn-mower. He yanks at a cord to crank up the engine to life.

This is not a luxury sedan. No anti-skid, no air conditioning, no suspensions, no power steering. No doors. No windscreen. And because it is small, and that only 3cm of empty space separates the tarmac from your behind, it feels very fast.

You will end up sweaty, dirty and all sweaty after your karting session. But the excitement is well worth it.
