Recently, things have not been going too well. But steps are in place to ensure it turns out ok. But the events which took place, got me thinking; what do we make of life. Are we supposed to life through life as it is one long event? There is a start, and there is an end. What you do in between is what matters most. But, in between, do you go through a strict healthy diet, work out and make sure you keep your body at peak performance? Then I recall this phrase a friend passed on to me once.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO-HOO what a ride!”
It got me thinking. It is true. Why bother with life if you are going to eat bland healthy food? Why bother at all if all you are going to do is go to work, eat salad, drink water and then when you are home, you slip into your workout clothes and exercise, swim and all that and then call it a day at 10pm?
Ah ha! There is where a lot of people, including myself, are mistaken. Who says anything about not having fun between starting and ending of life? There are a lot of ways to life healthy and have fun at the same time.
So for the phrase above, I think it lacks something. If the originator of the phrase does not take care of his body, he would not be able to ’skid in sideways’. Maybe he might be able to roll himself in in a wheelchair, with drips dangling on the side. He would not be holding a chocolate in his hand as his doctors or nurses would have snatched it away from him. Probably will not be able to scream as well.
So how to live an exciting life, with a balance between a healthy lifestyle and an exciting lifestyle? I am sure that there are ways. I do not know yet. My lifestyle is currently not very healthy. So I am switching to a healthier lifestyle, without compromising on the exciting part, as I want to skid in sideways.
