Random People Shots

September 22nd, 2008 by kamkuey

Taken mid of last week. It was the eve of a public holiday, and these two wanted to yamcha. So they came to a cafe near my place for a little bit of drinks and chit chat. And of course, playing around with the cameras.

Another First Time…

September 20th, 2008 by kamkuey

This morning, bright an early, Alan and I made our way to Klang. It was early. I was late. Somehow I did not hear my alarm clock going off. I must be very tired. So I had to rush. We were hungry. And the aroma of freshly brewed bak kut teh did not help one bit. Resist the urge to savour the tempting rich broth, we drove pass a collection of shops serving the famous Klang bak kut teh and headed directly to our destination for we did not have the luxury of time.

Actually, if I had woken up early and kept to the initial plan, we could have a bite. But.. *sigh*…

Anyways, this time around, we were covering a funeral. Yes, a funeral. I know of many funerals with photographers, but seldom in Malaysia. Maybe there is, but I do not know of it.

It was nerve wrecking.

With so many rituals and taboos, Alan and I did not know what we are allowed to photograph, and what we are not allowed to photograph. And to make things worse, we have many different kinds of rituals. Hokkien, Hakka, Cantonese.. etc etc. Plus, we cannot be going up to a group of people and say….

“Hey!! Let’s have a group photo… ready? Smile!!!”

Nevertheless, we summoned our courage and headed in.

It was not that bad. We took it as just another event, asked around what are the dos and don’ts and off we went. The D700 with its high ISO capabilities came in very handy as one of the do nots include using the flash inside. Unfortunately, I have yet to master the D700 to its full potential. Metering was not an easy thing to do with all the bright background.

Well, basically we had a rich experience. Something new, something challenging.

Sometimes we go by out work and our daily tasks that we tend to miss out on natures splendor.
