Southern Perth Trip Part 2
May 14th, 2010 by kamkuey
Ahhh.. i miss the clear Aussie skies.
Anyways, it is not ALWAYS clear blue skies. At times it was really moody. Like this day we went visiting the wind farm.

Quite impressive aren’t they? This shot is from the viewing platform. It’s quite nearby actually. Only thing is that you have to walk up quite a distance.

Or you can actually go right up to the ‘fans’ and hear them swoosh overhead.

Brother, cousin and myself… on the viewing platform.

hahaha.. i just had to do this. hahaha
All this was in the city of Albany.
Then we went on to Denmark…

.. not Denmark in Europe.. but.. the Shire of Denmark. Hmm… The Shire.. I wonder if Frodo the gay hobbit is around. muahahaha. But here, they sure do have one of the most mouth-watering pies around. Oh gosh.. thinking about it makes me hungry.

We bought a couple of pies and went on to have a quick picnic here. Everywhere you see nice parks like this. Small parks, large parks… they really do have nice parks. Clean some more.

The pie was so good, I went back and bought a couple more … for the road.

One of the many beaches around. This one in particular seems to be a favourite amongst Aussie photographers. Can see their collections being displayed at shops, wineries as well as shopping malls.

That’s us checking out a bunch of Aussie kids on a field trip swimming in the icy cold waters. As you can see, I was without my jacket, just standard jeans and t-shirt. I was freezing. You see, when I got out of the car in the carpark, it was not that cold. But down at the beach, the wind was really pushing the cold right to my bones!

And some couple shots… cousin and wife…

.. brother and wife.
It was quite a drive after this stop to the next destination.. and to walk amongst giants… which was basically a canopy walk.

Not bad lar. Quite interesting.

Quite high also.
Next up was our next accommodation. I think it was Kari Valley.

Apparently managed by Sime Darby. Cabins dot the entire place which was HUGE!! and with a nice lake.

Very nice living hall. Nice balcony as well. But it was extremely cold that day, so we stayed in. Three rooms.. but only ONE bathroom/toilet. Easily sleeps 7, rough it out a bit and 15 may spend the night here.. on the couch, floor.. etc etc.

Nice and cosy.

No electric heaters here. You use traditional fire place, which, if you do not use properly, the entire place ends up smelling of smoke!!
So where to get the firewood?

You chop them yourselves.

since the nearest restaurant is like an hour’s drive through the woods, we prepared some stuff and cooked our own dinner. The cabin came fully furnished including cooking utensils, pots, pans and even an electric grill.

After dinner it was just sitting back, chit chat and stuff.
And in the morning….

The calm greeted us.

Can only hear birds chirping… so nice.

then they came to have breakfast with us..

It’s also a very nice place for a pre-wedding shoot.

come to think of it, it would be a great place for a wedding as well. Nice cabins for the family and friends, nice cooling weather. Nice lake as a backdrop… Hmm.. anyone wants a wedding there? Can be arranged.

Oh.. and lots of activities to keep them hyper kids occupied.. WEEE!!!
Then off we went back to the road… to Pemberton.

It’s a small little town. You snooze, you would miss it. But it’s a nice little town. Wild flowers everywhere. We were there to take the train ride through the historical logging industry. I think. And to see their wonderful woods.

Even their train station is scenic. Well.. actually not the train station. More like a tram.

The guide took us on a single way journey through the woods. and through many bridges which was just enough for the tram.

Then we back-tracked and went on back to station and off again we went on the road.

On the way to the Lighthouse.
Hmm.. i think this photo above was taken while at the lighthouse compound.

This lighthouse is located right at the southern most tip. It’s also where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean.
Then it was back to the roads heading to our next lodging which we shall continue in the next blog entry
