Bangkok 2012–LubD Siam

October 23rd, 2013 by kamkuey

Yes, you read it right. It’s the year 2012.

I have been sitting on this for a while now and had made 2 trips over to Bangkok since this trip I am gonna blog about.

But it’s better late than never! Smile

Alright. Let’s start.

Before this trip, I have never been to Bangkok. Thailand I have been. My first was to Betong, Songkla and Yala when I was still in school. It was part of an Interact Club student exchange programme. No, I was not based there for a year or two. It’s probably more of a social holiday exchange type of thing.

Yeap… it was many years back.

So back to 2012.

I think it was one of the very first few times I stepped foot into LCCT. And it was also then that I got the chance to use the platinum card Citibank so graciously offered me and I enjoyed a short time in the premium lounge. Nothing much inside actually. Just the standard and very normal breakfast spread of nasi lemak, some scrambled eggs and coffee. The best thing was the beer, which came in very small bottles.

Unfortunately, they had discontinued access for Citibank platinum card holders. Basketball.

Two of the three traveling companions of mine.

The flight was nothing to shout about. You know. Budget airlines. Very cramped seating. I did not opt for meals or drinks since it was only a 2 hour flight.

Touching down on Survarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, we immediately set off to the rail which was conveniently located just below the airport. A 490Baht ticket will take you all the way to the city centre. That’s about RM5 compared to the RM35 of the ERL rail to … somewhat the centre of Kuala Lumpur. Oh well.

The hotel, or rather hostel we chose to stay is very conviniently located right next to a rail station. Although we had to switch 2 stations, it was still very convenient, and cheap. For less than RM7 each, we reached our hostel.

This photo was taken from the station. That’s how close it was. And that’s the name of the hostel. LubD at Siam Square. It’s very conveniently location right smack in the shopping area. Just about 5 minutes walk to MBK and Paragon.

And this is the view from the hostel itself. It was not noisy as well. Come to think of it, I did not notice any train passing by. Not bad.

That’s us checking out our room. It’s a 4 bed dorm with shared bath.

No frills. Just 4 beds, and 4 lockers to put your stuff. You have to bring your own padlocks though. No towels as well. You can rent them for 50Baht for the entire duration of your stay. Personally I would rent them. Towels are big and bulky and takes up space in your previous small little luggage.

The shared bath and toilet is very clean.

This is the boy’s bath and toilet. There’s another one just for the girls. It comes with a generic gel for body and hair. Not too bad. But if you have specific skin and hair needs, bring your own.

They do have a cinema room.

with nice comfortable huge bean bags (?)

Oh.. by the way, the 4 bed dorm is unisex. You buy a bed, not the room. You share the room with 3 other fella travelers. We were lucky to have 4 of us. If you are a lady and have a thing against sharing a room with a guy, then there’s a whole section dedicated just for ladies.

And if you forgot something very important, not to worry, they have vending machines for those items Smile

Each bed has it’s own power socket, reading light and a nice shelf for your phone as well.

This is part of the lobby.

There’s a guitar. You can play it if you want.

oh.. and they have computers for you to use… And yes, WiFi is free.

Let’s end here for now. We shall continue the rest of the trip at a later date. In the mean time,
